Hyper-V machines stuck in starting state

Today i restarted one of my Hyper-V servers and when it came up again i saw that most of the machines was stuck in a starting state.

I tried stopping and restarting all three of the Hyper-V services but with no luck

I ended up inside taskmanager and saw a lot of Virtual Machine Worker Processes (vmwp.exe) and that many of them was using a supiciusly low amount of memory.
I started to kill of some of them and suddenly all of my machines started up from their saved state

Strange, i hope this helps someone else

I’m not sure how i can explain this error to Microsoft – i’m not sure if i can reproduce the error.

  1. Michael says:

Had the exact same issue. In my case I wanted to remove the servers, and could not because they were stuck in starting. Killing the worker process let them restart.
    Thank you Alex.
